Bharti Sharma, M.A. (Hindi), Delhi University, National School of Drama Graduate (1987 Batch), Founder Member and Director of Kshitij Theatre Group, has been doing theatre in Delhi for last 38 years, acted in over fifty plays and has directed more than 35 plays, some of her well acclaimed plays are Pahaunch Wala Aadmi, Goli…ek paidayishi ghulam, Barfeeli Aandhi Aur Pistaul Ka Nishana, Shakuntala (in Nagpuri dialect), Nepatthya Raag, Main Hoon Na…(in time & space), Sabse Bada Dharm, Pandit Jagannath, Bade Bhai Sahab aur Bimaar, Elder Son, Begam Zainabadi, Ab Na Banegi Dehri, Purnavataar, Adhe Adhure, Bagiya Bancha Ram Ki, Episode In The Life Of An Author, Dilli Jo Ek Shaher Tha, Raag Droh, Andha Yug, Do Dukhon Ka Ek Sukh aur Maimood, Karmabhoomi, Tughlaq, Guilty! My Lord, Aisa Kehte Hain etc.
She is the recipient of the prestigious S.N.A Award (Direction). The award was conferred to her by the Honorable President of india Smt. Draupadi Murmu.
She has been awarded the Senior Fellowship by Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India in the field of Theatre for her research on the subject of “Changing Styles and Methods of Theatre Acting”. The research work has been published in the form of a book.
Her play “Karmabhoomi” was invited by the Indian High Commission in Mauritius, to be performed in the Word Hindi Day celebrated in Mauritius in January 2018 through ICCR.
She has also dramatized four novels ‘BIYABAN MEIN UGTEY KINSHUK’, written by Dr. Sudha Shrivastava, ‘GOLI’, written by Acharya Chatursen, ‘PURNAVATAAR’, written by Pramath Nath Bishi, ‘BEGUM ZAINABADI’, written by Sharad Pagare, AB NA BANEGEE DEHRI, written by Padma Sachdeva and stories by A. Pushkin ‘BLIZZARD’ and ‘THE SHOT’, “Bade Bhai Saheb and Gulli Danda” by Premchander and has performed the dramatized plays for Kshitij.
Worked with N.S.D. Rep., Co., for one year in 1987-88. Has worked with eminent theatre personalities like Ratan Thiyam, Ram Gopal Bajaj, B.M. Shah, Satya Dev Dubey, Ranjeet Kapur, Mohan Maharishi, Kirti Jain, Anuradha Kapoor, D R Ankur, Berry John, Robin Das etc. Learned Kathak for three years from Bhaswati Mishra and Light Vocal from Bhartiya Kala Kendra for three years. She has performed in the International Art Festivals of Tunisia, Algeria, Rom, Egypt, Syria and Kuwait with Parvatiya Kala Kendra through I.C.C.R. in 1982.
Her plays has been performed several times in Bharat Rang Mahotsav (International Theatre Festival organized by National School of Drama). Performed in Mohan Rakesh Samman Samaroh , Bhartendu Natya Samaroh, Odeon Theatre Festival, Calcutta, Kathmandu International Theatre Festival 2008, Kathmandu, Nepal, Woman Directors’
Theater Festival, Bhopal 2011, Woman Directors’ Theater Festival, Chandigarh,
2012, thrice in India International Art Festival, Delhi and International theatre
festival “Theatre Olympics 2018” organized by NSD. Theatre Festival organized by
Sangeet Natak Akademi in Chandigarh in 2017.
Co-anchored 39 episodes of ‘TANA – BANA’ serial (cultural magazine), with Mr. Shashi Kumar, produced by PTI(T.V.) for Doordarshan’s DD-I Channel, telecast in 1991-92. Has also written the Screen Play and Dialogues of 2 & ½ hour’s film ‘KALA-HEERA’ and acted the lead female character of the film, made for ZEE T.V., by Bharti Productions, the film was telecast on 27th January, 2001, at 8.00 p.m. under ZEE T.V.’s Saturday Special Time Slot. The Screen Play of the film was sent for nominated for the best Screen Play Award to the Asian T.V. & Film Awards.
Directed & co-produced 13 episodes’ Comedy Serial ‘GADBAD GHOTALA’
produced by Bharti Productions for Doordarshan’s DD-I Channel, telecast in 1995. Directed & Co-produced all the documentaries made by Kshitij for Deptt. Of Culture, Govt. of India. Has directed short-films and educational films for Deepaliya Plan Project (a Social Organization).
Has acted the lead female characters in ‘CHAUVA’ & ‘SILVER WEDDING’ telefilms made by CP.C., Doordarshan, telelcast in 1989 on DD-I. Acted in the telefilm ‘VO GHAR’ directed by Girish Karnad for Doordarshan in 1987. Acted in a few episodes of ‘BHANVAR’ serial made for Sony Channel.
